I love documentaries. I will watch one on just about any topic but I especially love documentaries about animals. Tonight I watched one on skunks with my pops and it made me REALLY want one!!!!! I have never even considered having one as a pet but they look like precious little fellas, especially Spotted Skunks! Skunk Haven was featured on the show and they had 18 living in one room- they take in all the skunks whose owners no longer want them. There weren't many black and white skunks there. They had white, lavendar and champagne ones- it was strange to see! The white skunks looked like huge rats. I wouldn't want one of those.
I came home and did some research on skunkhaven.net and I WILL NOT be getting a pet skunk now or ever! Their website aims to explain both the positives and negatives of owning a skunk and let me tell you, the negatives far outweigh the positives! I had never heard of rectal prolapse before tonight and I could have lived the rest of my life not knowing about it. The pictures were disgusting. And so were the treatments, the first one being massaging/shoving the intestines back into the skunk's body. EWWWWW! There were also pictures of parasites and I just couldn't deal with that at all. This was certainly a short lived dream. But I'm glad I learned about skunks- I've never really been a fan because of the smell and never paid attention to how cute they are! PBS did it again! They have such wonderfully educational shows :) They truly do make learning fun!
