Rust in Vrede
Miep Gies died today. I read The Diary of Anne Frank when I was younger and watched the play again just a few months ago. I am always fascinated by stories of the Jews/Nazis and equally by those who helped them, Miep and Corrie ten Boom being my favorites! It takes a truly spectacular person to risk their lives for others. Miep once said, "Helping people who are in danger is not a matter of courage but from making a decision that every human being has to make in his life when he or she distinguishes between good and bad."
"It surely is a painful experience to be the only survivor of the eight people in hiding and their five helpers, I miss them dearly, because I can no longer exchange memories and no longer enjoy their friendship."
